Non Wedding Party 2006

Dear Friends,
would you like to spend a
week in Finland? Is
10 – 16.7.2006 fitting to your plans? We’d love to
see you
with us. We are spending this week at the cosy little Katariina Island,
which is located at the archipelago of Sipoo next to Helsinki. The
island is quite remote, but Helsinki is still just around the corner,
so it’s easy to go sight-seeing, shopping and to feel the
sound
and smells of the city.
At the island we have a
place for dancing, an
outdoor fire to have a barbeque, the sauna is heated three times during
that week and there is a beach right next to us. The week will be
quiet, relaxing and easy going. It will end with a celebration of
friendship and time we are able to share. At that point it is important
to correct one stereotype about Finland and Finnish people: They
aren’t thought to be very talkative, but this isn’t
true at
all. We’ll organize a test at Saturday, 15.7.2006 to show
this to
you.
The test looks like an
ordinary party, but
there will be a lot more happening. You may ask what, but
it’s
quite hard to answer, because at parties those spending time together
are creating atmosphere and feeling. The magic comes from all of us.
This is exactly what we aim to do, create excellent non reality-tv
party with fantastic people of which many haven’t ever met
before.
The party doesn't have a
fixed programme. We
may ask someone to teach us some Finnish dances, to play music or to
show some outdoor games to make our short and beautiful summer
unforgottable. We believe that you all bring joy and talents with you
and maybe would like to show some abilities to sing, dance and perform
to others, who then join in.
Enough to make up your
mind? Just tell us when
you can come, how many people you will bring with you, and how long you
are staying. We’d love to see you with us. We are expecting
friends from Finland, Germany, Belgium, maybe Spain and other countries
to celebrate with us not our wedding but our being together.
Looking forward to seeing you at Katariina island,
Kirsten and Jukka

Getting there
It’s easy to get to the
island by bus,
taxi or private car. By your own car or taxi you can get right next to
island, take a boat and start rowing to us. If you are coming by bus
and you have things to carry it’s best to stop at the small
harbour of Storören from where we can get you using a
motorboat.
Flying to Finland
There is quite a lot flying
companies coming
to Helsinki-Vantaa airport almost every day. Finnair is good
alternative if you reserve flight early, otherwise budget priced Blue1,
AirBerlin and Germanwings are nice options. Ryanair flies to Tampere,
so it's option only to those that have some extra time to spend. Please
note that budget priced companies might not have flights every day and
that Germanwings is cheap and has good connections, but flights are not
connected, so they won't wait if your first connection if late. That
might be fatal to your timetables.
From Airport to Island
You can do this by two different ways
- Take taxi, most comfortable, most
expensive, less than 40 minutes (estimate. 30 - 35 euros)
- Use public transportation, 2
buses, approx. 60 - 80 minutes (3+5 euros per person)
Public transportation is quite easy to use, and you
shouldn't run to any troubles.
Taxi
You should ask taxi to go to "Storörintie 1,
Sipoo" or "Storörenin venesatama, Sipoo", which generally mean
same thing. If you have any problems, let them call to Jukka to ask
more detailed information.
To be more sure of yourself you can print out map
to Storörintie 1 to show to driver.
Public transportation
You shouldn't try your luck with fastest route, but if
you feel like trying it's possible with instructions you can find from www.matka.fi
page. Fastest route is just bit more challenging than one we recomment,
basicly you would need to find at which bus stop and which bus to stop
to get forward, but this might be enought to make it slowest route of
all.
We recommend going thru city center, finding bus terminal, right
platform, and asking bus driver to help you.
1. Take bus 615T (platform
21, 3 eur) from front
of international flights to Main
railway station of
Helsinki.
2. Walk to new bus terminal at basement of shopping
center at Kamppi (400 meters, 10 minutes).
3. Buy tickets to "Immersby Th, Sipoo" (5 eur)
and go to wait on platform they tell to you
4. When you go to bus ask driver to tell you when to get off ("Immersby
Th / Storörenin venesatama")
5. Enjoy views for 25 minutes while bus is going to east.
5. Get off, walk 50 meters ahead, turn right, walk 100 meters
and you are
seeing boats and us (5 minutes).
The most critical point is to get off from bus at right place. If you
aren't feeling safe about bus driver remembering this at right point,
you can make estimate of trip using www.matka.fi
with
starting point and enpoint times set. Estimate shows that it
takes 25 minutes. You can also follow the path, and try to see gadget
saying "Immersby". You can print same map to bus driver than for the taxi driver.
Busses are going quite frequently, at least 3 times per hour, so you won't be
in trouble at any
point. You don't need to hurry, but if the timetable that you have told
to us seems to change send SMS to Jukka, we'll handle things so that boat is waiting you when you come.
If you feel that city centrum of Helsink isn't that known to you,
please see attached map and panoramic view. Railway station and bus station are shown on small map.
Map of Katariina island
Katariina Island is marked
with a red spot. Busses are driving on road 170.

The route at sea from the
small harbour of
Storören or the nearest beach are marked with pink lines. From
the
beach you can take a rowing-boat, but if you are coming from
Storören you need to call and ask for a motorboat if you haven't planned things with us beforehand.

Information about the place
We have beds at the old
villa, which is next
to the water. If all coming to the party aren’t able to fit
in we
will reserve more rooms at the main building. This is actually picture of our dining room and kitchen, villa is not shown.

The party will take place
at the pavillion, which is a perfect spot for an intimate evening. There is places for campfires and we'll use them also.
